How to paint your plastic bumper?

Can a plastic bumper be painted?

Yes it can! The Bumper Paint by MOTIP is suitable for plastic surfaces on the car. No need for a plastic primer for better adhesion. A good preparation of course is necessary. Take care your car's bumper or in this case bumper strips are deeply cleaned. After this, degrease the surface well. 

We thought to gives this car its bumper strips a facelift by painting them black again after years of wear. 

     

    How can I use paint on a bumper?

    After cleaning and degreasing the surface, you must lightly sand the surface. Then it is time to apply the bumper paint to the surface. The MOTIP Bumper Paint comes in 5 basic colours. The best processing temperature of the aerosols  is 10 to 25°C. Remove the bumper cover or strips from the car or tape off an ample area around the surface to make te car part ready for painting. 

    How to spray paint the bumper?

    So, you are ready to paint your car's bumper. Make sure to shake the aerosols for 2 minutes and spray a sample. We recommend always to spray a sample to get used to the aerosol and the product. The distance to the surface should be between the 25 and 30 centimetres. Apply several thin layers until the desired results is achieved. Don't forget to shake the aerosol in between layers. 

    How long does it take to paint a bumper?

    Once you are done with painting, clean the valve. Turn aerosol upside down and press the nozzle for approximately 5 seconds. The valve should be clean now. The drying time of the paint depends on the ambient temperature, the humidity of the air and the thickness of the lacquer applied. The average complete drying time is 24 hours. The paint wil be dust-dry in 20-30 minutes and dry to touch in 60 minutes. 

    The bumper strips look like new again and the appearance of the car has been freshened up.
